Making some OCs

Working on repainting for myself figures of the characters from my raptor fic. Two of the JW Legacy Collection raptors already look a lot like the siblings Shredder and Grappleclaws, so it was easy to pick which figures to make into them.

The design for Grappleclaws, prettiest boy in the pack, is based on the tribe C raptors from JP: Trespasser, a variation of the regular tigerstripe male raptors with more yellow than orange. The figure has a lot of white in the parts I want to paint light yellow, so that's convenient.

Didn't take proper "before" photos of the face, apparently, but apart from the white lower jaw and the dark around the eyes, the head was orange all over. Like so:

That was before, but now yellow is in:

Getting there. He still needs stripes, some yellow on the arms, the rest of his claws painted, and I'm going to change his eye colour into red. The eyes on the jumping raptor sculpt seem to be always really well painted, so it's a bit of a shame, but he has a thin line of yellow around the pupils, so maybe I won't need to mess that up.

His sister Shredder was originally the brown jumping raptor, a "before" photo can be seen here. The figure reminds me a bit of the Jurassic Park: The Game raptors (I think it's the near lack of markings on the face), which is fitting since these guys are their kids.

I added stripes on the limbs and tail (they stopped at halfway down the tail before), two more on the top of her head, and a few dots in the stripe colour here and there. The scutes are also in the same colour, and I painted over the dark around her eyes a bit to get it to match, too. Painted the rest of her claws, and continued the underbelly colour onto her neck and jaw. I think she's done, but I'll have a proper photoshoot for the pack when they're all ready.

To also ramble more about raptor names, because I want to, these two (along with arguably Dash-and-slash) are basically the exceptions to my self-imposed rule not to give the raptors in the fic edgy "scary" names, because they're not monsters, and their names are what they call themselves. Their names still reflect their characteristics and strengths related to life as carnivorous wild animals, though, and Shredder and Grappleclaws are named such because they happen to be particularly skilled at the most violent part of hunting - a respectable quality for keeping the pack fed. Towards their packmates they're probably the sweetest, most easygoing ones in the whole cast.

Also, yes, Shredder is named after the TMNT character, because I thought it would be funny. And Grappleclaws is the closest I could get to naming one of the raptors Talon, which I might have done, but though it's a fine raptor name for the token raptor of the lineup, in a group of raptors it's kind of odd to have a name that's just a normal bodypart to you, I think, so I added a qualifier. Grappleclaws and his half-sister Triptail aren't named such for having claws and a tail, but for particular uses of those claws and tail that are typical for them as individuals.
