Bird science

Long time no post. I did finish AM2R, I've just been really depressed and haven't felt much like talking about anything, but I do still have things to say (and screenshots to show) about this game, so I might as well write them down.

Spoilers for AM2R, and the other two versions of Metroid 2. Also spoilers for Metroid Dread that are warned for again when relevant.

A human side of the story (human sidestory)

(Spoilers for AM2R, and also the original Metroid 2 and Samus Returns)

I skipped over posting about running into some more Galactic Federation soldiers, but I did find and visit the landing site of their ship(s - there's two teams, and you get to explore the research team's ship) before going to the Distribution Center and getting my swimsuit.

Things haven't been going much better for the ones who didn't go caving, huh?

Anyone home?

Well, nothing about this area is soothing, but that's perfect, and the music here is one of my favorites from the game. Entering the Metroid nest...

Sights and a snek

Pretty lava caves are pretty.
And the music was so nice and soothing for a while I almost forgot you're in this game.

My new swimsuit!

Am enjoying how much of the user interface in Chozo technology is ball-based. Rolling around in Morph Ball form even when I don't need to is just so much fun.

Also, GRAVITYYYYY SUUUUIT!

Balls

What a perfect spot to be a ball in!

Technological marvels

(AM2R spoilers.)

An elevator? In my Metroid 2?

Caving experiences in space

(Some spoilers for all three versions of Metroid 2.)

Pretty cordite crystals are pretty.

Sometimes less visuals is more

Okay but how intimidating is this as an introduction to a new area? A vast, dark cave you can't even see the floor of.

Instead of jumping into the unknown, I decided to play it safe and map out the dimensions of the cavern by spiderballing across the ceiling to the other side, and. Look at this. Nothing but pitch black in sight, the rocks I'm clinging to the only indication of where I am in this space. Alone in the dark and still none the wiser about what I would fall into if I let go. Well done, AM2R. Peak Metroiding.

Descending deeper

More screenshots and things from playing AM2R, or Another Metroid 2 Remake, which, as I neglected to mention in the first post about this playthrough, is a fan-made remake of Metroid II: Return of Samus (1991), published in 2016. Despite being a fangame, many fans consider it basically an official Metroid game, and I can confirm from what I've experienced so far, it's very good. This isn't a fully blind playthrough despite being my first, but I've admittedly forgotten a lot of the puzzles and item locations from watching others play it, and it's been fun to figure things out for myself.

Mild spoilers for all versions of Metroid 2's story (original + official and unofficial remakes).

Birbs holding birbs.

Commencing bughunt

I love the little arm cannon checking idle animation Samus has in AM2R. Which I suck at, but am having fun playing so far.

Managed to kill this cute space beetle, though.

Making a little birdie for my birdie shelf

What do we have here, a cute little easter chick decoration with white feathers? Perfect for...

...cutting off its wings and beak!

( Wait, what? D: )
