The big moment. You can find Lady Hawk's video of the fledging here, and in this post are screenshots I took from the livestream on three of the nest's cameras.
Glamorous closeups of E15 while hanging out at the attic earlier in the afternoon.
Flapping wings, with little sibling E16 doing the same in the nest. E15 was pretty restless all afternoon and didn't seem to want to stay in one place for long, taking long fly-leaps between the branches.
Returning to the nest for a bit. E16 on the left, E15 on the right.
Make way!
E16 stays in the nest and watches their older sibling feel the wind under their wings.
E15 closeups.
Then E15 miscalculates a return to the attic, and ends up below the nest.
After switching branches for a while, E15 falls off the tree when the branch they're perching on breaks. E15 flutters to the ground and is unharmed.
Setting out to explore the pasture!
Pecking at a flower, lol.
Keeping a careful distance to the horses. The fence is bordering the driveway, not the busier road.E16 enjoys a private meal while their competition for food is away. E15's adventure was accompanied by frequent eaglet squees from the nest. Don't know if E16 wondered where their sibling had gone, but E15 could surely hear exactly where E16 was.
E15 discovers the pasture pond. After looking around for a bit they lie down in the grass there by the bank, and spend about 25 minutes resting, and being adorable.
Taking off.
Finding a perch.
E16 went to sleep without a nestmate for the first time, with E15 roosting in another tree for the night, and dad M in the tree next to E15's.
This morning finds E16 tucked in at the nest, and E15 safely at the same tree where they were seen in the evening.
Edit: And now E16 has branched! E15 is still at the other tree.
