Damnit, Billy

[spoilers for mostly Jurassic Park 3, some for The Lost World: Jurassic Park, and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom]

Billy: I was photographing the nest.

Actually, was he? Billy lies to Dr. Grant by omission about having taken two eggs from the raptor nests they stumbled upon, but what he says he was doing instead is a good lie. Why would he not have taken photos? ...Why did it not occur to anyone, possibly up until that lie, that they should photograph the nest while they're already there? Maybe Billy was the only one with a camera, and certainly getting out of the raptors' territory as quickly as they could was a good idea, Billy splitting from the group while in raptor territory being a lot less of a good idea, but... just a couple of snapshots on their way out? And did he actually take any in addition to stealing the eggs?

Masu models

Also, an impressive side-eye at my greeting her with a camera when she walked in the room. As the two above photos taken right after may indicate, though, she warmed up to the idea.

Trio nestorations

I finally managed to catch a glimpse of the trio eagles on the livestream. The excitement of the day was:

Valor 1 taking five minutes to arrange and rearrange a single stick so it's just right (Valor 2, who just flew in with a talonful of grass fluff, is next to him, Starr on the branch behind them. She looks deceptively small with the distance, so I wasn't sure who was who until she got down - Starr is the biggest of the three, like female raptors generally are, and V1 is the smallest.)

Starr moving a big stick while all three are on the nest. I think the Valors mostly just stayed out of her way on that one, she's got this.

Some beaking from Starr to both, and between the two males (Starr on the left nipping at V2's beak here, V1 got up on the branch after getting plenty of that from both). The beak nips, which have also been seen between Jackie and Shadow of the Big Bear nest earlier in their nesting season, look pretty aggressive sometimes, but as I've understood this is courtship behavior for the species.

After Starr flew away, the Valors perched together for a long time, before also leaving one by one.

Sleepy Masus

 Stretching on the floor.
She started falling off the cushion, so she put a paw out to steady herself before continuing the nap.

Happy, sad, and hopeful eagle news

Happy news is the Big Bear eagles are incubating two eggs now. Egg #1 is nine days old today, and hatching is expected to start around Valentine's Day.

Shadow brooding.
Jackie seen with the camera's night vision, fluffing up the nest in windy weather.
Jackie yawning on her day shift. Now that the incubation has started full-time, one of the parents is always on the nest. Jackie does most of the incubating, including overnight, and it seems Shadow takes over for her in the morning and on afternoons.

Figure repaints of Skye's little siblings

More photos of the finished figures are here at my site and here at deviantart, and in this post you can find a more detailed look at the process of painting them.

Small-me art

Check out this sample I found of storytelling and illustration from when I was probably 7 years old:

"Seija sat in her chair."
"It's a cold autumn evening. Annika was drawing a Bronttosaurus."

(That's all there is to the story/stories. Cancelled after pilot episode.)

Masu assists

Or at least observes, as I take photos of a thing. She is very helpful.

Vague craft activities

A practice round of gluing small, fluffy things onto a surface.

(The paint is dry, it's a scrap piece of cardboard I've used as a palette.)

And shaving pipe cleaners. Context to follow.

A grey floof

Speaking of eagle nest updates, some screenshots from the Southwest Florida nest's live stream, mostly of their now-22-day-old chick being cute some more.

Egg shower

One of the avian raptor nests I follow, the bald eagle one at Big Bear Valley, California, had a big day today (or, yesterday, since I'm posting this past midnight on my timezone), as eagle mom Jackie laid her first egg of the season last night! I took some screenshots of the live stream, as I happened to tune in with both parents on the nest for a bit, and a view of the egg.
