A grey floof

Speaking of eagle nest updates, some screenshots from the Southwest Florida nest's live stream, mostly of their now-22-day-old chick being cute some more.

And also big! E14 has more than doubled their hatching size, as is clear by comparing them to the second egg of the clutch. That egg never did end up hatching, which is unfortunate, but it happens. E14 seems to like cuddling the egg when napping.

A closeup of the E14's new pin feathers! They've also gotten dark thermal down in addition to the light fluff they hatched with, which is why the parents don't need to brood the chick all the time anymore.

This one's a yawn (or maybe a crop drop? as in moving food from the crop to the stomach, doing that tends to look like yawning), but E14 did also occasionally exchange little peeps and chirps with mom and dad, who were taking turns perching on the higher branches of the nest tree, watching over the baby and keeping a lookout of their surroundings.

Update to the post later the same day, with a cute family meal I got to witness, though since it's a raptor one, warning for some peeks at dead animals as the food (a bird and a fish):

Dad eagle M15 brought a fish, and the parents proceeded to feed the baby and each other. Harriet on the left, M on the right. M tore off pieces from the fish and gave them to Harriet, who then gave them to E14.

 Then M feeding E14, Harriet supervising...

...until they upgrade to dual-feeding the baby, with Harriet feeding them the fish, and M offering bites of an earlier prey's leftovers inbetween fish beakfuls. No wonder E14 grows so fast, lol.

Of course there's also E14 being an only child, so they get all the food without having to share with a sibling. Harriet and M had another clutch of one a few years ago, and that chick fledged in record time for this nest.

When Harriet and M have had two chicks during previous seasons, they've fed them as a team like this, too, with each parent feeding one chick. The chicks would still bicker, but they did both get plenty of food instead of one bullying the other out of a meal.

After Harriet flew up to the attic again, M continued to feed E14 alone for a while, as E14 sat cozy on top of the egg.
