SE27 and SE28 fledge!

Both eaglets left the nest tree this morning. Not entirely of their own volition, but that's how it goes sometimes. Here is video of the fledges: SE28's, SE27's, from both cameras, and here are some screenshots I got of the events:

First, SE27's first visit to the branch SE28 first branched to. SE28 meanwhile perches on "SE27's branch". She prepares for a jump...

...and launch!
Good job!
And a graceful landing back to nest right after.
The eaglets switch places, with SE27 now on the branch, and SE28 in the nest.

SE28 tries to fly to SE27's left, but it doesn't quite go to plan...

SE28 lands on top of SE27, who flaps her wings to stay on the branch, and SE28 falls from the tree.

SE28 was later located below the other camera. It's hard not to worry, but this is a fairly normal way for the big step to fledglinghood to go, and he has been flying well between branches already, so hopefully he's okay.

SE27 kept getting harassed by currawongs at the nest. They seemed to have gotten bolder now that she was alone, and would perch on the branches right next to her before swooping. A little over an hour after SE28's fludge, she had had enough. She runs back to nest from the branch after almost getting knocked off of it...

...and jumps!
SE27 has seemed a bit more timid about flying than her little brother, but it seems making the nest not a cozy place to stay in was an effective motivation to make her discover she can indeed do it. I lost track of her here, but the other camera caught her landing in the tree this camera is attached to, and then flying away, pursued by a currawong. Despite her earlier hangups, she was flying strongly, so hopefully she'll be okay, too. The eaglets are 12 weeks old (SE28 tomorrow, to be exact), and old enough to be ready to fledge.

Stay safe out there, both of you!

This was certainly the most eventful "fledging" I've seen here, I hope they learn to fly and can venture into the wilderness.

O and, there might or might not be a "fludge" typo between the 9th and 10th photos.

Both eaglets have reportedly been seen today, so that's good news.

An accidental fledging is unofficially known as a fludging. :D
