More peeks at the Big Bear eagle hatchling

(Warning that the post also includes clear views of gory prey.)

Both parents present for a feeding at the Big Bear nest. Shadow brought a coot, and Jackie is feeding the chick that. Shadow picks up a fish from the pantry and tries to offer the chick bites, but the little one is turned away from him and still too uncoordinated to turn between parents to get the best of both feedings.

E19 branches!

Busy day for Bald eagle nestcam-watching today, it seems. While on the other side of the North American continent another chick just hatched, at the Southwest Florida nest Harriet and M15's older eaglet of this year's clutch has left the nest for the first time.

Peeks at the Bald eagle chick that hatched at the Big Bear nest yesterday. No zooms yet, but the day is young. ETA: Now there's zooms. Warning for dead fish in view, though not very clearly so even in feeding closeups.

Jackie and Shadow's first chick of this season has hatched!

Not quite out yet. Dad Shadow is on incubation duty, and gets up to roll the eggs. The shell is split, but the chick still needs to push it open.

Pip confirmed at Big Bear Bald eagle nest

Another Bald eagle nest I've kept an eye on is the one at Big Bear, California. It's not an easy location to nest in with the altitude, and the pair Jackie (female) and Shadow (male) have had a couple of years of failed clutches. But yesterday one of their newest eggs had a pip on it, indicating an eaglet is beginning to hatch!

A brooding shift change yesterday. Jackie gets up to go take care of some undisclosed eagle business, and Shadow looks after the eggs while she's away.
