Good morning, eaglet!

Peeks at the Bald eagle chick that hatched at the Big Bear nest yesterday. No zooms yet, but the day is young. ETA: Now there's zooms. Warning for dead fish in view, though not very clearly so even in feeding closeups.

The nest area got snow during the night, but Jackie kept the chick and egg warm under her.

After another shift change, Jackie feeds the eaglet fish that's been stashed in the nest.

Little one misses mom's beak and bites a stick.

Despite the hatchling's clumsiness, I think it did get a few bites of food. At this young it still has the yolk from the egg nourishing it, and can take its time training that small neck to hold its proportionally huge head up, so no worries if it's just a few bites.

Feeding over, time to cover the baby and egg again.

It's cold out there without mom's feathers and brood patch, so let's tuck you in again.
