Pip confirmed at Big Bear Bald eagle nest

Another Bald eagle nest I've kept an eye on is the one at Big Bear, California. It's not an easy location to nest in with the altitude, and the pair Jackie (female) and Shadow (male) have had a couple of years of failed clutches. But yesterday one of their newest eggs had a pip on it, indicating an eaglet is beginning to hatch!

A brooding shift change yesterday. Jackie gets up to go take care of some undisclosed eagle business, and Shadow looks after the eggs while she's away.

Jackie returns to the nest.

And takes over the incubation.

Later in the afternoon, a zooming when Jackie gets up to roll the eggs reveals the pip!
