Banding went well at Satakunta Osprey nest #3, and the little one has her brand new anklets and a brand new name.
36-day-old N2 is a female, weighs 1485 grams, her wing chord length is 305 mm (from wrist to tip of primary feathers), the ID letters on her yellow leg band are UPM, and her name is Myy. For pronounciation aid, you can check out any Finnish audio version of a Moomin cartoon, as the osplet is now a namesake of Little My.
Standing up looking around about half an hour before the banding. It's a hot day again today, so it's good for both the humans and the birds to get it done while it's still relatively cool early in the morning.Myy spent about two and a half hours alone afterwards, hiding at the bottom of the nest. Nuppu was seen flying close past the nest right after the banding, so Myy was probably guarded from a distance, even if the adults took their time to dare approach the nest again.
And now mom's home, with some new bedding brought in her talons. Nuppu seems to have been pretty calm about this, at least as much as a wild animal can be about humans intruding in her nest, considering we're big and weird creatures, and, as far as they know, predators. Apparently at one osprey nest banded this year the female actually tried to chase the bander away, though, so hats off to that gutsy bird lady, as well as to Nuppu for making the bander's job easier.
Nuppu and her little Myy, watching the scenery and waiting for a fish.
ETA: Got a fish!

Late breakfast with Myy and Nuppu.
And Myy spending time with dad, too. Ahti watches the chick for a change, while Nuppu runs some undisclosed bird errands.Ahti being a parasol for his big baby.
