Nest moments

Satakunnan sääkset nest #3. Osplet Myy with dad Ahti.

And Myy self-feeding! She successfully got some pieces out of the fish, even though her legs aren't strong enough yet for her to hold it by standing on it.

Good job!

Ahti (front) and Nuppu having some peace and quiet in the evening while Myy sleeps with a full crop.

Mom Nuppu at the nest in the morning with Myy, Ahti is in the trees to the right.

Ahti visits the nest before going fishing.
Nuppu and Myy having a preen.
Nuppu is perched on the camera, and Ahti brings in a headless fish. The head is both nutritious and difficult to eat, so it's usually the part the adult (usually the male, but the female may fish for fledglings, too, when she doesn't need to be at the nest with them so much) eats before bringing it to the nest. If you wait for leftovers instead you're likely to be left with nothing.

Nuppu (left) comes down to the nest, and she and Ahti have a look around before Nuppu begins feeding. Myy seems impatient; there's a delicious fish right there, why are mom and dad just standing there?

Ahti flies up onto the camera, and stays there for the feeding, providing a lookout, and eventually some extra shade.

Ahti joins Nuppu and Myy at the nest for a while. He moves a few sticks, snoozes in the camera's shadow, then takes off with the fish leftovers, which there actually were this time even though the girls ate for over an hour.

Nuppu's tail has a Myy-shaped train.
Wing workout!

And some more wingers this morning. Myy keeps wanting to practice, but mom is in the way.

They do always look so cute striking the same pose.

Admiring mom's wings for inspiration? Or just trying not to get smacked in the face with them.

Nest's all hers!
Getting closer to fledging each day.
