Painting Singer

With sculpting finished on this figure, I can start painting him! In this photo he already has a layer of light brown acrylic painted onto that finger I replaced. It should help blend the different materials a bit.

A rainbow seen from the window where I put him to dry that bit of paint. :)

Starting by covering up the grey epoxy putty in areas that will be white or orange (and orange parts of the original figure that I want to be white instead), mostly just on the face at this point. I want to get a lighter colour under the final layer of paint, or otherwise the putty will show through. The white is just straight out of the tube, and the orange is red + raw sienna + white for opacity.

Next adding orange to the replaced body parts, too, and defining the white markings on the face a tiny bit.

Going over the orange parts with red + raw sienna + burnt umber to make them less bright, and over the white parts with white mixed with a bit of raw sienna and turquoise for a more off-white colour, and also continued the white underbelly a bit into the new tail tip for a smoother transition. There's a bit of the off-white near the tip of the snout, too, where he'll have two white spots. Defining the facial markings further, and painting the eyes.

The right eye still has original paint showing at the bottom of the eye and at the top on the right half, and I'm glad I could keep that. The left eye received a pupil, and a thin coat of green (to still let some light through to the glow-in-the-dark clay the eye is made of), leaving just around the pupil fully unpainted for a brighter glow. There's a bit of burnt umber under the left eye as a kind of eyeliner to make the light-coloured eye stand out more, applied with the tip of a sewing pin.

Adding most of his dark markings. Some smaller dots and any markings on the lower jaw outside the lips are still missing, but the tail is done. I touched up the ones on the lips, and added a bit of his markings to the neck, too, because why not.

And he has the snout spots. I think Singer looks more like his dad, and has inherited the dark chin marking from him more than Serene has, but he has a bit of white on his snout like his mom, and has inherited her eye colour.

Finishing touches.
I lightly brushed a pale mint green under the jaw to match the figure's original paint. After that had dried I added his chin markings. He also has a couple of small dark dots added that I'd overlooked before, some shading and highlights on the orange and black parts of his face, and his claws are painted. I didn't paint all of the original claws fully, but most of them had scuffs at the tips, which got touched up.

And with that, he's done!
