Myy has fledged!

Congratulations to the osprey family at Satakunnan sääkset nest #3! Their only osplet fledged this afternoon and has safely returned to the nest, several times even. Many screenshots in this post.

Joined by mom Nuppu, who has taken a liking to perching on the camera. She gets down after noticing an impending fish delivery.

Ahti brings a whole fish, and breakfast is served.

Some more closeups of Myy after the meal. The weather has been pretty hot and dry for a while now, so this isn't what she's used to.

And now to the afternoon's events, starting with a big wing stretch while she's standing in pretty much the exact same spot.

Myy's flight inspirations continue. Nuppu soars over her to the camera.

Myy spreads her wings, too. She starts doing some practice hops around the nest, striking some impressive poses in the process, and stopping to look around every once in a while.

Eventually she flaps to the edge of the nest.

Takes a look at mom perching up there on the camera...

...and decides to join her.

Perfect liftoff!

Myy doesn't stay on the camera for long, and might not even fully land judging by the continued wing flap sounds (probably not a lot of room for two birds their size), and soon flies out to the swamp, fully leaving the nest tree for the first time.

She reappears in the top right corner of the frame, but continues over the nest.

There she is again!

She's back!

And sticks the landing. Good job, Myy! You're a fledgling now!

Preening tail feathers back into shape.

And after some maintenance in the form of more preening, stretches, a crop drop, a poop, and a rouse (pictured - it's when they floof out their feathers and do a little shake, to put their plumage into order; a sign of a happy raptor)...

She's off again!

Another beautiful liftoff and return.

I think someone may have discovered that she enjoys flying. And why not, she's so good at it already.

Hello! I'm so proud of you!

After that flight Myy has stayed in the nest for the rest of the day, doing regular osplet things. She seems to really like this spot. Check out that grip she has on the stick! She'll do great at perching on branches.

And she has gotten two meals, too. (Nuppu did eventually share this one.)
