Nestpic backlog

Screenshots from three raptor nestcams. Warning for some views of fish prey in the first two, and some sibling rivalry in the second one.

First a few pictures from nest#1 of Sääksilive Osprey nests. Eine (female, right) and Eura (male, left) now have a chick (just one, there were two eggs and the other didn't hatch), and I just had to get some screenshots of this lovely moment (about a week ago, the chick is now two weeks old, and is a week old in these screenshots). Eine is shielding the little one from the sun, and keeping a lookout, while Eura feeds the chick.

And here's the now 2-week-old chick having supper just now.

 

Parasol model of the mombrella is also a common sight at nest#4. Nuppu shading her two already quite big osplets. Older chick N1 on the right. They've already grown so much again in the week and a half since these screenshots!

A supper feeding. Both chicks ate well. N1 is behind mom here.

Early breakfast. N1 didn't seem very hungry, and let N2 get a good headstart.

But eventually decided to join the feeding, and ask N2 to step aside, the way osplets ask each other for anything - with a few pecks.

Clever N2 circled around to mom's other side, and still got some more food before the feeding was over.

Wet osplets waiting for mom to come back. This day was at the beginning of a heat wave, so the chicks were fine in the rain even though their waterproof feathers were still very much a work in progress.

Nuppu returns with a big stick.

And lands right on top of N1!

Another perspective. Looks like N1(middle) and N2 (front) have some kind of distinct head feather patterns. N2 has more dark.

Breakfast for N2 yesterday. N1 has already eaten, and is resting its crop on the unhatched egg that's still in the nest (and has been pretty thoroughly sun-bleached).

The chicks are kind of starting to look like actual birds rather than unfinished muppets. :D Both are four weeks old now, N2 having turned four weeks yesterday.

And here's the other boy soon after. (Don't know which is which, but this one's tail was in frame at the same time as the other boy was for a while, and that one's bands were briefly visible enough to see the orange band was in the right leg, like it is on the two male eaglets, and Kana'kini was at the nest at the same time as this eaglet stayed near the overlook camera, so this one, too, must be a boy.)
