Good day to be an eaglet

A few closeups of the almost 4-week-old Big Bear Bald eagle chick from yesterday. The snow from the night before quickly melted away during the day, and the little one spent more time next to rather than under its parents. Last screenshot shows a fish prey, the others don't.

Hanging out with mom Jackie. You can catch a peek of the alula pin feathers as the chick preens its wing.

Social beakies, or asking for food? Probably the latter. Or just curious.

Chick watching dad Shadow settle on top of the inviable egg that's still in the nest. Instincts are strong, and the parents haven't completely given up on incubating it yet, though we know it won't hatch anymore. Maybe that's why the chick, too, often sits on the egg - copying parents' behavior?
