At the Cornell Red-tailed hawk nest, the oldest chick, L1, has made it to on top of the railing along the platform the nest is on, and gave viewers a lot of lovely closeups both yesterday and today.
Before more of those, a few screenshots of the two Peregrine chicks at
Cal Falcons. The oldest of this clutch, Lindsay, has also found a new spot, on top of one of the lights along the edge of the roof their nest is on.
A good pick for the light to start with, as this one is not even on the edge like it should be. She seems quite comfy there.

And back at the Cornell Redtails. L1's first attempt at getting on the railing...

L2 hops over for wingers, which it seems are best done where there are siblings to step on in the process.

Alright, new try for L1. Ready, steady...
Good job! L2 watching from the platform.
Dad shows up with prey while L1 is up there. L1 doesn't get down yet, and so misses this meal. You win some, you lose some.

Yes, hello, you're adorable.
And finally, a successful return to the nest. Mom has just brought a new prey, and this one has L1's name on it.

L4 has been playing with a chipmunk, getting good at handling prey like the older siblings.

L1 gets up to move to the front of the group. Hard to nap when siblings keep insisting on grooming you. L4 switches to preening L2.

And more confidence, too. L1 started hopping along the railing and wingercising, with L4, L2, and L3 watching from the nest platform.

Kudos to the camera operator for keeping up with L1, anticipating where the chick might fly if it decided now was the moment to fledge. It wasn't yet, but no doubt will be soon.
