Fishy tension

Good morning! The visiting fledgling (VF) at nest #1 seems to have spent the night nearby, and is still around. What trouble will she cause today? (Going by her temperament and size, I'm pretty sure VF is a female, so I might as well refer to her accordingly.)

Well, here we go. Eura brings a fish to the nest, which Utu speeds over to claim, and loudly announce to have claimed.

VF arrives. Utu bravely tries to go on the defensive...

...but is overpowered. He ends up lying down on his front at the edge of the nest, and VF has a foot on his side, discouraging sudden movements.

VF takes the fish.

She gets startled by Utu getting up, but he only wants to GTFO at this point.

After some posturing for good measure, VF eats her newly claimed fish.

Exchanging vocalizations with Utu and/or Lumme nearby.

VF leaves the rest of the fish after she's had enough, and Utu returns to the nest for his share.

He eats some of it on the nest, but doesn't get too many bites down without disturbances.

VF returns, too, but Utu is quick to fly away with the fish. Good job!

Shouldn't have left it if you wanted to keep it.

Later Lumme flies to the nest, and cleans up some leftover fish pieces again.

Eve brings a fish, Lumme claims it.

Or tries to, I think she grabbed mom's toe at first.

Fish claimed.

And like clockwork, here's VF.

Lumme protects her fish. It helps that VF didn't arrive quite as guns blazing as when Utu had something she wanted. She's already eaten today, so she can afford to pick her battles more, and Lumme would be a bigger opponent to battle.

So she bides her time.

Lumme shakes the rainwater off her feathers. VF seems pretty on edge about it.

Lumme doesn't seem as bothered when it's VF's turn.

Lumme gets to dine in relative peace, though occasionally she needs to look up in case her uninvited guest gets any ideas.

Idea gotten.

"What, you think I'd steal your fish? When have I ever done such a thing? Don't answer that."

VF keeps inching closer, though...

And Lumme has had enough of her antics.

VF tries to retaliate with some threat-posturing, but Lumme doesn't seem intimidated.

VF goes to the edge of the nest for a while.

New attempt...

Turning away when Lumme turns to look at her. Quite the change in attitude.

VF does try to grab the fish, though, when Lumme turns away again, and gets one more beak bonk.

And so, she leaves Lumme alone.

They seem pretty chill with each other for a while there.

Eventually...

VF approaches, very carefully now.

Lumme already has a full crop, so she just lets VF take the fish.

Yes, good mantling, but I think it's okay, she's just cleaning her beak. Go ahead and eat.

And that she does.

Feasting and feaking, occasionally interrupted by looking around, but they're not so wary of each other at the moment.

Lumme leaves.

Fish is all yours!

She leaves the rest of the fish behind again once she's full.

It seems the visitor may indeed become a resident, at least until migration. The livestream chat has unofficially named her Ulpukka (another aquatic plant often found together with waterlilies), and if she sticks around I think I'll start calling her that, too. She's quite the character, very fierce, more so than she probably needs to be at this point, but who knows what she's already been through before ending up here.
