Screenshots from Sääksilive Osprey nests.
At nest #1, the older chick Lumme fledged yesterday at 7 weeks old to the day. Here she is warming up her wings just before while little brother Utu watches.Hop!
As of writing this, Lumme hasn't returned to the nest yet, and how long a chick takes to return after fledging can vary a lot. Utu is 48 days old today. If he fledges today, it'll be a new record for these nests, so far 49 days has been the youngest (a record held by Lumme, and another chick from this particular nest in a previous year). But no rush, whenever you're ready.
At nest #4, N2/USU waiting for fish deliveries yesterday.
Screaming at an intruding Osprey together with mom today. The view is blurry because N2 pooped on the camera again, though rain has already washed it since these shots.
N2 has yet to fledge at 61 days old, but that, too, varies by individual. His left wing has started looking a bit stiff, and whether there's something wrong with it is a hotly debated topic at the livestream chat. If there is an injury, it may heal on its own, and if not, I trust the decision whether to interfere will be made by people much more qualified than I am. Hoping for the best for every bird, knowing the best isn't always what happens. We'll wait and see.
